Bake Off

Hi All,

It's been such a busy term since we launched Seesaw! I have not had the time I would have liked to blog about the fantastic work you have all been doing, and to share ideas with you all. I will be trying to put that right over the coming days. I have a lot of art, music and cat/dog/gerbil pictures to show you!

To begin, I am going to share a letter that Mrs Winsor wrote to you all a little while ago. She has a great pizza recipe that you might like to try at home. I gather that a lot of you are keen bakers. It would be great if you could share something you have cooked on the Seesaw baking activity I have set. It can be something extra special or something simple that you have been making a lot since lockdown started. It might be a snack, cake, main course - anything at all that you have made yourself. If you include a photo of your creation, and a recipe, I can share it on the blog and we can all have a go at cooking each other's recipes! Share on Seesaw by next Friday (5th May). Remember not to submit any recognisable pictures of yourself, or I will not be able to share them here. Please also remember to talk to your adult and get permission - and help - where needed. Happy baking, everyone!

Here is Mrs Winsor's letter and recipe:

Hello Oak Class,

I hope that you and your families are well.

These are such unusual times, we are unable to work, live and socialise in the ways that we were used to. I am sure that you also find some of these a challenge.

I have kept myself very busy and have managed to persuade my teenage son to make, create, exercise, learn, read and play. Whilst my husband is at work, we have been trying to keep a good routine of work, fun and rest and it works well. We have been jogging, doing Pilates and exercising with Joe Wicks most days - have you tried it? Isn’t he a hero!

On the weekends, we all have been on beautiful walks, we walk the same exact route, quiet and beautiful through a wood - now scented and coloured by beautiful bluebells! Have you been on good walks recently?

My son and I have been cooking a lot, he would like to take Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE and has started making simple family dishes. Recently he has cooked cakes, curries, lasagna, bread and pizza. I thought that his pizza idea was great and he now makes it once a week, on the weekend.

If you would like to try it, here it goes. Please ask your adults at home for help.

Puff Pastry Pizza

1 sheet of ready rolled puff pastry

A small amount of tomato sauce homemade or from a jar

1 chili (optional)

½ pepper thin slices

Sliced mushrooms cooked

1 ball fresh mozzarella

Parmesan cheese grated

Chorizo thin slices (optional)

Method

Preheat the oven at 180 degrees C.

Unroll the pastry and place it on a large rectangular baking tray, lined with the paper supplied with the puff pastry.

Lightly score a line of 1cm width around the pastry with the tip of a sharp knife and spread tomato sauce on the inside area.

Top up with the rest of the ingredients (any choice of ingredients, use what is available).

Ask for help and carefully place the pizza in the oven to cook for 20-25 minutes.

Ask for help to check that it’s cooked and to remove the tray from the oven.
